The City of Farmington participates in the National Flood Insurance Program. This program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, makes flood insurance available to any property owner in the city.

To maintain its good standing in the program, the city is obligated to control development in certain flood-prone areas by adopting and enforcing floodplain management regulations.

Permits

The City’s floodplain management regulations basically require a permit for construction or development in the 100-year floodplain or any flood-way as designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Elevation of residential construction in the 100-year floodplain is required. Certification of flood-proofing or elevation of all commercial or industrial construction in the floodplain is required. A No-Rise Certificate is required for any construction in a flood-way.

NOTE

A state land disturbance permit or other permit may also be required in some cases by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

A federal wetlands permit may also be also required in some cases by the Army Corps of Engineers.
